The titration ladder

You start low and step up — gently.

Doses build slowly over the first months so your body has time to adjust. Most people reach the maintenance dose only after the lower steps feel comfortable.

011.5mgDays 1–30Starter
024mgDays 31–60Step up
039mgDays 61–90Step up

Your prescriber confirms each step. Some people stay longer on a dose if side effects need more time to settle — there's no race to the top.

What it is

A daily tablet that does the same job as the weekly pen

The Wegovy pill contains semaglutide — the same GLP-1 medicine as the Wegovy injection — formulated as an oral tablet. It uses a delivery technology called SNAC to help the medicine absorb properly when it's swallowed rather than injected.

For people who'd rather not inject, or who travel often and don't want to manage a refrigerated pen, the tablet is a genuinely different way to take the same treatment.

No needles

A tablet swallowed with water, taken once a day on an empty stomach.

Once daily, same time

A simple daily routine rather than remembering a weekly injection day.

Room-temperature stable

No fridge needed, so it's easier to store and far simpler to travel with.

Pill vs injection

Same medicine, two different routines

Both are semaglutide. The difference is how you take it and how the doses are scheduled.

These figures come from two separate trials with different participants, so they're not a direct head-to-head. What's suitable for you depends on your health, history and how you respond — which is exactly what the clinical assessment is for.

What the trials showed

Average weight loss across GLP-1 treatments

Headline averages from the main clinical trials. These are different trials, doses and durations — read them as context, not a league table.

Bars show the “regardless of adherence” estimate for each treatment so they're compared on a consistent basis; on-treatment figures are higher (oral ~17%, Mounjaro up to 22.5%). These are separate trials with different participants and methods, not a head-to-head, so they can't be read as a direct ranking. Results vary with dose, adherence, side effects, treatment length, starting health and lifestyle support. Is it right for me?

Who the Wegovy pill is for

The pill is intended for adults living with obesity, or who are overweight with a weight-related health condition. A clinician makes the final decision.

May be suitable if you

  • Are an adult with a BMI of 30 or above
  • Have a BMI of 27+ with a weight-related condition such as high blood pressure or type 2 diabetes
  • Want to combine medication with diet and lifestyle change

It may not be suitable if you

  • Are pregnant, trying to conceive, or breastfeeding
  • Have a personal or family history of certain thyroid cancers
  • Have had pancreatitis or certain other gastrointestinal conditions

This isn't a full list. Your prescriber will review your complete medical history and current medicines before deciding whether treatment is appropriate.

Good to know

Side effects & safety

Most side effects are digestive, tend to be mild to moderate, and are most common when starting or stepping up a dose. For many people they ease once the maintenance dose settles.

Common digestive effects
Nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea and constipation are the most frequently reported. In OASIS 4 these were usually mild to moderate and tended to improve over time. Eating smaller, lower-fat meals and staying hydrated often helps.
Other common effects
Some people notice headache, tiredness, dizziness or changes in appetite, particularly in the early weeks.
Staying hydrated
Because nausea and reduced appetite can lower how much you drink, dehydration is worth watching for. Sip fluids regularly, especially when starting out or increasing a dose.
Less common but serious
Rarely, GLP-1 medicines have been linked to pancreatitis, gallbladder problems and other serious reactions. Your prescriber will screen for risk factors before you start.
When to seek urgent help
Get urgent medical advice if you have severe or persistent stomach pain (which may spread to your back), a severe allergic reaction, or signs of dehydration you can't manage. When in doubt, contact your prescriber or NHS 111.

"A tablet version of Wegovy is genuinely useful — plenty of people put off treatment simply because they don't want a weekly injection. But 'easier to take' only matters if the prescribing behind it is done properly. Our job is to look at your full picture and tell you honestly whether oral semaglutide is the right choice for you, or whether something else fits better."

"I ordered for the first time on the Friday, had a telephone consultation that afternoon, sent my photos and had it approved the same day — then delivered the following day even though it was a Saturday. Came with more information than any other provider has ever sent me. Would highly recommend."

Questions

Frequently asked

When will I receive my pre-order?
Oral Wegovy is expected to become available to prescribe from July. Pre-ordering reserves your place, and you won't be charged until a clinician has assessed you and confirmed treatment is suitable.
Can I get the Wegovy pill without seeing a GP?
Yes. You complete an online assessment and a QuickMeds prescriber reviews it. You don't need a separate GP appointment, though we may ask for more information to prescribe safely.
Can I switch between the pill and the injection?
Switching between routes can be possible, but it's a clinical decision. Your prescriber will advise on timing and the right dose if a switch makes sense for you.
How does the pill compare to Mounjaro?
In their respective trials, Mounjaro (tirzepatide 15 mg) showed a higher average weight loss than oral semaglutide, but these were separate studies rather than a direct comparison. The pill offers a daily oral option with no injection. The best choice depends on your goals, preferences and health, which is what the assessment works out.
Do I need to keep the tablets in the fridge?
No. Unlike the injectable pen, the tablets are room-temperature stable, which makes storing them and travelling with them much simpler.
